Ten on Tuesday

The Ten on Tuesday topic for this week is 10 Things to Do Instead of Watching TV.

1) Read
2) Listen to Podcasts
3) Play games on the Ipod Touch
4) Play games on the Nintendo Ds or whatever it is called, mine's a Rose pink.
5) Knit
6) Listen to the radio
7) Play with the cats, the picture above is Kayla and Juliet playing when they were still kittens.
8) Spin on one of the wheels, which I haven't done in probably a year
9) Play on the computer: Goodreads, Ravelry, Petfinder, yarn shops
10) Call or Text a friend or better yet, go for a walk with a friend

Still knitting same two things.  I am stalled on the baby sweater, I want the arms to match so ordered a solid yarn.

Multnomah Shawl

Here's my Multnomah Shawl that I finished right before camp for the fashion show.  The yarn is some Noro Kureyon Sock that I bought at camp the first year they had the yarn there.  I had been waiting for the right project and after seeing a few on Ravelry, I decided to use it up.  It was a fun knit, the yarn was a little rough but washing it helped.

I am still plugging away at Daybreak and the baby sweater.  I did go to one of the more local shops yesterday and picked up some buttons and yarn.  I went to their Antique shop/sale yarn shop next door and bought some yarn for dog sweaters and a baby sweater.  A girl who works in our building had her yorkie and yorkie/poo in on Friday.  I had knit the yorkie a sweater but not the little one.  She is very little, only 6 lbs so now that I have seen her, I am going to make her a little sweater.  I found a few patterns that look small enough and will make one sometime before fall.

It's been very hot yesterday and today so I ran my errands early yesterday and just plan to do nothing today.  I did some wash but I think that will be it.  Next week is supposed to be really nice so that will be good.  I think a co-worker and I are going to head to the outlets when we get out on Friday as she has a coupon that expires soon and this Friday I don't have any errands to run so it seems like a good time.  I have been filling up my calender for August/September Friday afternoon with cat vet visits and library visits so it will be fun to have a Friday out.

Stay cool!

Ten on Tuesday

The topic for 7/20 is 10 Things to Bring on a Camping Trip. We went camping every summer from the time I was 6 months old till I was about 19. This list is a compilation of what was brought over the years.

1) A good book or two
2) Sunscreen
3) Bug spray
4) Flashlights and the Coleman lantern which gave a lot of light for playing cards at night.
5) Sleeping bags and blankets
6) The dining fly - good for rainy days.  We had a large dining fly with sides which was great for bad
     weather.
7) The kitchen cabinet - my father built this cabinet which was rectangular and large, probaby 2 feet by 3
feet, it kept the food hidden from the raccoons and usually was on a picnic table under the dining fly.
8) Sweatshirts for the cold nights
9) Our bicycles
10) The dog, I think we may even have brought the cat a time or two.

We had a pop up camper while I was younger but then my parents sold that and would sleep on mattresses in the back of the pickup truck while my sister and I had a tent.

Knitting camp

I won this bottle of wine in a raffle right before we left camp for home.  Camp was very nice, it was hot but there is a breeze at the camp that made if feel much better.  Each of our rooms had a ceiling fan which helps and then I think everyone brought their own fans.  I never used mine, it wasn't too bad at night.  Thursday night is movie night and we watched "The Wedding Date".  Friday night is Bingo and I won a few times.  Saturday night is the fashion show but we didn't have models this year so everything was laid out and one of the campers modeled everything we wanted to see.  It seemed a little more humid that night so we just relaxed.

For knitting, I didn't do anything I had planned.  Didn't even start Hamamelis or the socks or the other shawl even though they were all with me.  I worked on the Daybreak shawl and the Turbulent Indigo scarf.  I bought a few things on shopping day, a mitten kit, knitting bag and a magazine and a pattern from the yarn shop.  Two skeins of sock yarn from Ellen Coopers Yarn Sonnets which will be shawlettes, I think.  And a pretty blue pair of earrings from a fellow camper.  I think that was it.  I noticed a screw in one of my front tires during the weekend so I also now have a new set of tires.  I was sick on Sunday and didn't feel well on Monday either.  Not sure if it was a bug or something I ate which didn't agree with me.  No one else was sick so I am thinking it may be something I ate that I probably shouldn't have.

I have now finished the Turbulent Indigo scarf and it is blocking.  I started a baby sweater and then I still have Daybreak to work on.  I've finished 4 of the 10 books on my Ten on Tuesday books to read over the summer list.  Now I am onto some library books and will eventually get back to my list again.

Ten on Tuesday

You can't really see them but there are swans in the middle of the picture.  That is the pond outside of the yarn shop that I hang out at.

The Ten on Tuesday topic for 7/13 is 10 Things You Like About Where You Live.

Hmm, I'm going with the state I live in, not the city.. I live in central CT.

1) The seasons (Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer)

2) The proximity to various sheep festivals (CT, NY and MA)

3) The ocean is a short drive away.

4) There are lots of lakes and ponds around and it is nice to just sit by the water.

5) Multiple yarn shops in any direction.

6) There are two outlet malls a short drive away.   They are close to the shore so there is usually a stop for some seafood after shopping.

7) There are nice restaurants around the state and it is fun to find a new one that then becomes a favorite.

8) UCONN Women's basketball. I like to watch college basketball if I am going to watch any basketball.

9) The chance to see some animals; bunnies, deer, swans, even the woodchuck by work.

10) The Knitting Retreat which I just returned from. Fun time till I got sick the last day.  More on that another day.

Ten on Tuesday

The Ten on Tuesday topic for 7/6 is 10 Ways to Enjoy Summer.

1) Sit outside in the shade and knit away.

2) Sit outside in the shade and read.

3) Go to my parents cottage and hang out.

4) Go out for ice cream - there is a place near my parents cottage that sells yummy ice cream.

5) Half Day Fridays - at work we make up the time during the rest of the week and leave at noon on Friday

6) Pool Partys - a past co-worker has a pool and has a pool party on one of our half day Fridays. She was layed off in the fall but still wants to have it this year. She's done it for about 2 or 3 years though I went for the first time last year.

7) Enjoy driving with the sunroof's (my car has two) open on the back roads.

8) Drink more Ice Tea and Lemonade - for some reason it tastes better in the summer.

9) Eat Watermelon, it also tastes better in the summer.

10) Go to Knit Camp - I leave Thursday morning - picture above is of the pool area.  My feet may dangle in it this year as we are having a heat wave.  My knitting projects to bring still undecided. I spent hours over the past week on Ravelry looking up patterns. Started a Daybreak Shawl out of Silky Wool and Noro Silk Garden Lite, ripped once as I just couldn't find the stitches for the M1's that I needed to do. So far, it is working, though I am not in love with it.  Also started a Turbulent Indigo scarf out of some Mini Mochi.
I still plan to work on Hamamelis though I haven't started it yet.  I don't think I will bring the sweater for my mother as I haven't measured her for it and will probably just wait till later on in the summer.  I also haven't started the socks and I also have yarn for another shawl wound and ready so I am still up in the air.  Decisions, decisions and only a day or so to make up my mind.
