Happy New Year

My nephew received his afghan on Christmas day. He was very happy. I wasn't sure if he had remembered wanting one. He told me the other day that it is on his bed, not in a bag in his closet like his sister's was for a few weeks or months. The knitting of the squares was done in sixth months, mostly during lunch at work. The sewing up and crochet around the edge was finished up in December, the 24th to be exact. Nothing like waiting till the last minute.

Anyway, have a Very Happy New Year. Knit from your Stash 2007 will start tomorrow.

Scarf and Mittens FO

My niece is now 18 and doesn't want sweaters anymore but I always want to make her a little something. So, the scarf and mittens were born. She was here at Thanksgiving with a purple ski jacket. So I dug through the stash to find an appropriate yarn with purple in it. The yarn was an old Ellen Coopper Yarn Sonnets 3ply Merino wool. It has to be over 5 years old because I bought it at a yarn shop that has been closed for over 5 years. The yarn was just gorgeous to touch and knit with. The pattern was the Multidirectional scarf pattern. The mittens are Cascade 220 and the mittens were out of a Patons book knit flat. Not my favorite way to knit mittens but I haven't done them that way before.

Lady Bug hats

My hairdresser is getting the pink/purple multidirectional scarf and these two Lady Bug hats are for her little girls. The pattern is from Countrywool.com. I had bought the kit years ago to make a hat for my niece. I then told my hairdresser this summer that I was going to make her girls Lady bug hats thinking of a Dale pattern that I had. I decided not to make that one and thought of this pattern. It was a fun knit but then I waited a while before embroidering on the black lady bug parts. My appointment is next weekend so I had to get them finished off.

Today I finished my niece's multidirectional scarf and I plan to make a pair of mittens for her. I bought the yarn yesterday and went through my patterns today. I found a Patons pattern that has you knit them flat and seam them. I haven't done a pair this way yet so I will do her pair flat.

I have tomorrow off for a Dr. appt so I plan to wind the wool up and get started.

Secret Santa Scarf

Here is my Secret Santa scarf which was for my old boss. Same yarn as in the last post but in a red colorway. I also include a clear glass flat ornament painted with a snowman with a red heart. She loved them and also mentioned she wanted me to teach her to knit some lunchtime. I said sure but it is funny cuz she is only in the office about once a month so I never see her.

A friend of mine had me and she thought of going to the LYS to get me yarn but figured I would want to pick out my own. She thought maybe a sweater with an Xmas scene and I was wearing a fleece cardigan with winter scenes on it so she was glad she didn't do that. She did get me a red leather Liz Claiborne notepad holder with pen. I love it. It is about 5 x 7 or so and I told her it would fit great it my knitting bag. She was thinking more about my using it for our meetings in NYC but I don't think I want to risk misplacing it there. It is something I would never buy myself, I usually just buy cheap ones at CVS or use freebies that we get at meetings.

I spent today at my favorite YS in Deep River, CT. I dropped off some Cardamom bread for the owner and co-worker for Xmas. My father likes to make it and they all love it as they got some last year, too. They were having a book sale so I picked up some books for me and for a grab bag gift.

Multidirectional Scarf FO

I love this scarf. The yarn is Casdade Dive Teseo. I really like the yarn though it is a pain to rip back. I have this same brand yarn (different colors) for two sweaters. Plus, I have another scarf on the needles for me, and two planned for friends for next Xmas. I am almost done with a smaller version for our secret pal thing at work. Plus, maybe one for my niece. I found some gorgeous yarn in the stash that I bought years ago and have been trying out patterns for a scarf for my niece. So far there has been trying and ripping. I think I will just make her one of these as it is pretty mingless except when I somehow forget an increase. The pattern is by Karen at http://douma.net/Karen/knitting/Accessory-Scarves/Multidirectional_Diagonal_Scarf.htm
